In any first-person shooter game, players have to focus on every element presented to them in order to rapidly detect enemies and other threats. Sight and sound are equally important, and spatial awareness can mean the difference between a player surviving or not.

These same things can be said of Call of Duty: Vanguard, but unfortunately, players are having difficulty hearing and focusing on their surroundings in Call of Duty: Vanguard's maps right now. A clicking, "cricket" bug is now being investigated by the developers.

Following the game's most recent update, some Call of Duty: Vanguard players have been reporting being overwhelmed by a constant clicking sound. Some have described it as sounding like a ton of crickets, while others have said it sounds like they're constantly scrolling through their classes at a rapid pace. In any case, it's making it difficult to hear actual environmental and player hazards, potentially ruining a match for a player due to no fault of their own.

Unfortunately, the problems don't stop there. Call of Duty: Vanguard players hit with this bug have also noted that their system performance seems to take a hit at the same time. In one clip shared, a player's frame rate visibly struggles, and the HUD has seemingly disappeared. While technically playable, anyone experiencing this bug would be at a severe disadvantage against opponents playing normally.

Thankfully, Sledgehammer Games is now investigating the issue. The matter has been placed on the known issues Trello board, so hopefully a fix will be released for the problem soon. Until then, the only known solution for the problem is to quit out and try joining another lobby, or if that fails, completely restarting the game. It's an unfortunate hassle, though at least players can find a way to work around it for the time being.

While this would be a nuisance in any game, it's unfortunately just the latest example of numerous bugs that have cropped up in Call of Duty: Vanguard since its release. While some of them have been creepy and hilarious, like Vanguard opponents turning into corpses or attack dogs flying through the air, quite a few of them have made the game an unfair playing field. Numerous exploits have been discovered allowing players to do things like see through walls and move trees around. While the clicking and lag seems to be a random occurrence, it's likely that some players impacted by it have already dealt with the consequences of one bug or another in Vanguard already. With any luck, the issue will be patched far more quickly than Call of Duty: Vanguard's aim assist bug.

Call of Duty: Vanguard is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
